Cupping Therapy

In addition Sharon Cawthorne can also offer Cupping Therapy. Which is a traditional healing practice that originated in ancient cultures, including Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), as well as ancient Egyptian and Middle Eastern medicine. It involves placing cups on the skin to create suction, which is believed to promote healing, improve circulation, and restore the balance of energy in the body.

How Cupping Therapy Works

Suction Creation: Suction is created inside the cups, which can be made of glass, silicone, bamboo, or plastic.

Heat Cupping: A flame is used to heat the air inside a glass cup before placing it on the skin. As the air cools, it creates a vacuum.

Vacuum Cupping: A pump is used to create suction without heat.

Placement: Cups are typically placed on areas such as the back, shoulders, neck, leg or other areas of muscle tension or pain.

Duration: Cups remain in place for 5–20 minutes. They may be stationary or moved along the skin in a technique called sliding cupping.

Types of Cupping

Dry Cupping: Involves suction alone, leaving the cups in place on the skin.

Wet Cupping (Hijama): Combines suction with controlled skin incisions to draw out small amounts of blood - Please note: this is not offered in our clinics.

Massage or Sliding Cupping: Cups are moved over oiled skin to provide a massage-like effect.
